Students Manage Airport’s Annual Gift Wrapping Station

PHILADELPHIA (Dec. 14, 2011) — Students from Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) have a new assignment this holiday season. In partnership with the Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), Temple’s STHM students will manage and operate the airport’s annual gift wrapping station.
From Dec. 1 through Dec. 24, passengers and employees can have holiday gifts wrapped by the students, free of charge. Gift wrapping is available daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the B/C Connector. (Must show a receipt from an airport retailer to qualify.) Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops features more than 160 retail options, offering passengers guaranteed street pricing on the latest apparel, shoes, technology, jewelry, accessories and more. Since the program’s inception, this is Philadelphia Marketplace’s first ever partnership with a Greater Philadelphia university.
"The partnership with the Marketplace is another example of our deep relationship with the Philadelphia International Airport,” said Dr. Elizabeth H. Barber, Associate Dean of Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. “The school wants to be a part of the dynamic tourism industry in the city, and what better place to make an impact than be in a frontline position to interact with visitors—at either their first stop or their last stop while they are visiting our city."
To thank students for volunteering their time and talents, Marketplace Philadelphia Management will make a $5,000 donation to Temple University. Student professional organizations participating in the gift wrapping program include the STHM Student Association, National Society of Minorities in Hospitality, Meeting Professionals International and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
