Philadelphia International Airport Debuts 10 Stores in New D/E Connector
PHILADELPHIA — December 30, 2008
The Philadelphia Marketplace Food & Shops at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomed eight new stores and two food and beverage merchants to the airport during the unveiling of the brand new D/E Connector on December 30.
The expansion includes 7,700 square feet of concessions space and brings PHL’s number of in-line stores to 160.
This is the first phase of a multi-phase project that will dramatically change the quality and quantity of retail and food/beverage offerings for passengers using terminals D and E. The new D/E expansion provides an upgrade to a part of the airport that has long been underserved by the concessions program due to lack of space.
New to the airport’s retail mix is footwear retailer Crocs, which features its popular clogs and other styles for the entire family. Techshowcase made its debut at PHL, offering passengers the latest in mobile electronic devices. Also new is Peet’s Coffee & Tea, a specialty coffee and tea café with plenty of space to relax and a laid-back coffeehouse vibe.
Travelers can catch up on the latest bestsellers at Borders, make flights more fun with portable entertainment systems at In Motion, and choose from the hottest sunglass styles at Sunglass Hut. Before taking off, Vino Volo provides an upscale atmosphere to sip fine wines and enjoy gourmet small plate meals.
Hat retailer Lids/Lids Kids will offer a wide variety of baseball caps and other headgear for both kids and adults. Brookstone’s new D/E location offers passengers innovative travel, office and home products. Taxco Sterling, a fine jewelry store featuring sterling silver jewelry, accessories and tableware, also opened in D/E.
With the opening of the D/E Connector, passengers can conveniently walk straight through from Concourses A, B, C and D to Concourse E without having to go through security checkpoints again.
The new connector also includes expanded security lanes and will eventually include additional ticket counters, gates, baggage claim areas and more food and retail space.
“We are excited to offer our passengers even more choices with the opening of the D/E Connector, and we’re looking forward to including additional retailers as the airport continues to grow,” said Paul McGinn, President of Marketplace Development.
Clarence LeJeune, President of Marketplace Philadelphia Management, said “The addition of the D/E Connector will elevate our already award-winning concessions program to new heights.”
